If I told you there was a cave over a mile down, where it's dark, dank and cold and where creepy creatures lurked about waiting to feast on human flesh, would you want to go? If I told you there was a movie called The Cave that was shot way too darkly, wasn't at all creepy and where a lack of action threatened to bore you to tears, would you want to see it? I would hope not. In The Cave, a group of cave/scuba divers are asked to investigate a 'newly' discovered cave in the Carpathians mountains (that's in Eastern Europe. Romania to be exact). The fact that a church was built on top of the cave and the fact that the little murals and paintings in the church denote some hellish looking winged creatures coming from the cave are completely ignored. So, is the fact that another team 'found' this cave 30 years before and haven't been seen since. Of course, our group of fearless impossibly attractive divers and scientists (Cole Hauser, Morris Chestnut, Eddie Cibrian, Lena Headey, Piper Perabo, Rick Ravenello) they get down there and can't get out - making them the perfect target for the Alien-looking predators. It was so dark that I couldn't even see much of the action. All of the characters were pretty much interchangeable. There was way too much wading around in the water. Not even the presence of Morris Chestnut with some killer arms could save this for me (it was too dark to see them most of the damn time!). The best thing I can say about The Cave is that I liked the ending. It was kind of clever and more than anything, it meant the movie was finally over. |
