If you like action, and I mean lots of action, and you can check your sense of reason and logic at the box office, then you will enjoy Eagle Eye. If, however, you prefer your action to be firmly grounded in reality, you'll be pulling your hair out 20 minutes in. Eagle Eye, is a good old-fashioned popcorn movie. It doesn't make a lick of sense. It doesn't have to. It's an adrenaline-filled assault on your senses. Jerry (Shai Lebeouf) is the very definition of an 'under-achiever.' His twin brother is his exact opposite - a driven Army man on his way up, well, at least he was, until he died in a car accident. Rachel (Michelle Monaghan) is the doting single mother of a cute little boy who is on this way to perform with his school band at the State of the Union. Jerry and Rachel meet when they begin receiving messages from an unknown female voice directing them into more and more dangerous situations. She holds Jerry's future and Rachel's son's life in the balance. After being accused of being a terrorist, Jerry has the feds on his tale, in the form of Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson. Eagle Eye is set in present day Chicago and Washington D.C.; but the world it occupies isn't the one we live in. We find, through a news report that cell phones can be used not only to track the user but to hone in and eaves drop on their conversations, even when they aren't turned on. This is the world of Eagle Eye where the preposterous passes for reality. Critics, geniuses and lovers of all things 'real' will be rolling their eyes as the plot unfolds in an increasingly outlandish fashion. However, people who like to watch a lot of chases, shoot-outs and in general, things that go BOOM, will appreciate the frentic pace and the growing number of collateral damage. |
