Let's Go to Prison

Rating: R

Running Time: 84 minutes

Getting shanked on your way to the showers. Being beat up for looking at someone the wrong way. The nervous fear of being the center of a man on man love affair. All the joys of being in the most revered place in the entire world…Prison?

Let’s Go To Prison, tells the story of John Lyshitski(what a last name), a career criminal that does exactly what most guilty criminals do, he blames other people for his own misfortunes. In this case, John blames the judge that sent him to prison four times. Upon his final release, he makes a pact with himself to get even. Unfortunately, the judge dies before he can carry out his dastardly plan. The next best solution, punish the judge’s only son.

He sabotages poor Nelson Biederman the IV, who is arrested and convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. To make sure his plan works, John gets himself busted and becomes Nelson’s cell mate. Can we say idiot? He befriends Nelson and pretends to protect him, but in reality, he tries to get Nelson beat up, raped, and possibly murdered. Wow! What a friend.

Dax Shepard (Employee of the Month) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) portray two of the biggest idiots you’d ever want to see. They are stupid, but you can’t help but like them. They were definitely a good match. Great on screen chemistry between these two comedians, but the show was stolen by Chi McBride (Boston Legal), who plays Barry, Nelson’s love interest. He spends most of the movie wooing Nelson. It was the most romantic thing I’ve ever seen. Well, the funniest things I’ve ever seen. It was so satisfying seeing those two love birds together.

Seriously, this film was very interesting. It wasn’t the funniest thing out there, but it was entertaining. Mildly entertaining. Like I said earlier, the scenes with McBride and Arnett are hysterical. The other scenes were just rehash from other comedies set in prison. Very funny ending and some laughs here and there throughout. That’s about all you’ll get with this prison movie.

It’s good, but not one you need to rush out to see. Wait for the DVD. It will probably be available next month.
