As you can tell by the picture in my bio... I was born to ROCK!!!! If you see the new comedy The Rocker you will quickly realize that The Office’s Rainn Wilson was born to do the same. Robert ”Fish” Fishman has the world in his hands...circa 1986. His band Vesuvius is about to make it big, but the label thinks he is a missing link that needs to get lost. He is quickly replaced and instantly filled with a burning desire for revenge. Fast forward twenty years, still an immature imbecile, Fish gets a second opportunity to rock out when his nephew’s band needs a drummer for their upcoming debut. The rebel without a clue rises to the occasion and actually performs well. So well, that when the band is illegally put on You Tube, they become an internet sensation. They land a music deal and hit the road. Now, he finally gets the chance to live out his rock-n-roll fantasies. Unfortunately, his antics only jeopardize the band’s shot a stardom. The Rocker is one of those movies that takes a while to get going, but once it does, the ride can be fun. Overall, I thought this was a nice movie, but nice and great are two different things. Wilson turned in a solid performance, but there were only a handful of loud belly laughs. A comedy should be overflowing in laughs. I think this could be a fun movie to play when you feel nostalgic for the eighties or want to rock out with your own rock-n-roll fantasies, but I feel you can wait for the DVD release to do all that stuff.
