Okay, ladies! Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are back! And while some things have changed; a lot of things remain the same. The Sex and the City Movie is like reconnecting with an old friend. Several years have passed and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has turned her experiences with her girlfriends into three successful books and is still head over heels in love with Big (Chris Noth). Charlotte (Kristen Davis) and her husband (Evan Handler) are the blissfully happy parents of a beautiful little girl. Things aren’t exactly happy for Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) whose marriage is in trouble because of her overworked and over scheduled life. Meanwhile, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is living the bi-coastal life managing the red hot television career of her lover Smith Jared (Jason Lewis). When Big and Carrie decide to buy an apartment together, they decide to enter into another union – marriage. So the girls rally together around their girl and plan the ultimate wedding, but the road to true love has always been rocky for Big and Carrie and it’s no different on the big screen. I’ve been excited about this movie for a while. When the show was on HBO, no one could call between 9:00 and 9:30 on Sunday night. Give the number of women in the audience; I wasn’t the only one who missed Carrie and friends. The movie started with a great update on our fabulous foursome and each character had her own storyline complete with the guys we came to love four long years ago. The fashion flowed as fast as the drinks (Margaritas and of course, Cosmos) and I felt the film did our girls justice. We loved Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha because behind the Manolos and the Birkin bags, they all had heart and each woman had something we could personally identify with. That hasn’t changed, even though writer/director Michael Patrick King has moved them along in their lives. As Carrie’s assistant, Jennifer Hudson, was a nice addition to the cast. She didn’t appear until half way through the film but she had her own storyline and did add something to the plot. It was nice after four years to have a little color in the city. The problem was that with four main characters it took over two hours to give them all their due and at times it dragged on a little bit. But this was a very satisfying conclusion to the series. |
