Tekoa Summers has overcome some astronomical odds. She grew up in a small Florida town and by the age of 16, she had lost both parents, including a father to HIV/AIDS. But perserverance and determination won out. She graduated from the Univerity of Central Florida with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in legal studies and immediately began giving back. As a motivational speaker and workshop leader, Tekoa uses her story to motivate and inspire others. This is one dedicated and determined DivaSoulSista!
1. What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment was being selected by EBONY magazine as one of “30 Leaders under 30.” Who would have ever thought that a little girl who grew up in poverty, lost both her parents, battled with depression and thoughts of suicide, would be featured in EBONY! It’s amazing where your dreams will take you if you only believe.2. Name your favorite movie.

Presentation is everything, it’s imperative that any success man or woman look their best at all times! My personal “diva” style is once a week salon visits to maintain great hair and a collection of stilettos that could make any outfit look stunning!4. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
When I was younger I heard a minister say, once, “If you want to find dreams or goals, take a visit to the grave yard!” I didn’t understand the quote at first, but as I matured I began to understand what he meant. I believe everyone was born with a purpose and something in life to achieve; however, many people have died never accomplishing their goals, simply because they gave up. In essence, there is only one difference between those that have accomplished their dreams and those that have not …..DETERMINATION.5. You look mah-valous! What is your secret??
It’s really not a secret, everyone can do it. I exercise regularly, drink lots of water and watch what I eat. I don’t eat red meat, pork or drink soda. More importantly, I stay away from negative people and any form of drama.6. What's one dream you look forward to having come true?
There are so many dreams I look forward to having come true, but ultimately, I wish to make my belated parents proud of the woman I have become.7. If a movie were made about your life, what actress would play you and who would be your leading man?
I would have to select Sanaa Lathan, because of her strength and independence. Of course my leading man would be Terrance Howard because of his intellect, diverse acting ability and cute eyes!8. What 3 adjectives would your best friend use to describe you?
After consulting with my three best friends (Gen, Shyla and Chrystol), I would have to list the following: Trustworthy, witty and uber-organized.9. What makeup/beauty essential can you absolutely positively not live without?

My mission in life keeps me motivated to work hard and stay positive. My mission is to encourage people of all ages to turn their stumbling blocks into stepping-stones, their misery into motivation and their goals into achievements.
