Anya has the distinction of being our first Canadian DivaSoulSista of the Month, making this feature truly international! She moved from Vancouver to Denver where she toured the world with the performance group Up with People! From there, she came to Los Angeles where she was accepted into the prestigious Directors Guild of America Trainee Program. The competetive program receives overr 1,500 applicants each year and selects no more than 20! After graduating from the program, she accepted a position as an assistant director on CSI:Miami. She's faced her share of challenges as an African-American female on a male dominated set. But she handles all with the grace and charm of a true diva!
1. What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment, I would have to say is traveling around the world in my twenties with the group "Up with People". During my time with that organization I learned how important it is to understand other cultures and how difficult and rewarding it can be. Working with a group of students from over 30 different countries, traveling with them through the United States and abroad and helping them to process their experience and learn how to give back to the communities they touched was so inspiring.
