How to Lose Friends and Alienate People
Don't Bother
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People is based on a novel by Toby Young. It's about a young British writer who comes to New York City to work for a very established magazine. He learns some hard lessons while making every mistake in the book. I saw the film. If this is an interesting premise to you, read the book. I haven't read it but it has to be better than the movie. Flash of Genius
Rent It
David and Goliath cometh...again! The little man  taking on the big corporation storyline has been told time and time again. This time, David is being played by Greg Kinnear and Goliath is the Ford Automotive Corporation. Based on a true story, Flash of Genius tries to tell an inspirational story about never giving up. “Tries”...being the key word. Read more...
An American Carol
Don't Bother
I read a survey a while back that asked which political group would throw the better party. Regardless of their politics, people decided when it came to getting their party on, they wanted to hang out with the liberals. Let's face it, they're just more fun! The minority of people who prefer a conservative shin-dig might like An American Carol but I doubt it. Read more...
Blindness
WTF?
In 1996, I saw a movie that made a lasting impression. I remember it being one of the worst movies of that decade for me…12 Monkeys. I haven’t seen a more depressing, boring, and visually unappealing movie since…until now! Read more...
Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist
Liked It
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a sweet little film. That's it. It's a sweet little teen film. No fart jokes. No gratuitous nudity. No teenage boys frantically trying to get laid. Read more...
Miracle at St. Anna
WTF?
Spike Lee is back with another one of his “joints”, a war epic entitled Miracle at St. Anna. Unfortunately, the true miracle for me was resisting the overwhelming urge to walk out of the theater. Read more...
Eagle Eye
Liked It
If you like action, and I mean lots of action, and you can check your sense of reason and logic at the box office, then you will enjoy Eagle Eye. If, however, you prefer your action to be firmly grounded in reality, you'll be pulling your hair out 20 minutes in. Eagle Eye, is a good old-fashioned popcorn movie. It doesn't make a lick of sense. It doesn't have to. It's an adrenaline-filled assault on your senses. Read more...
The Lucky Ones
Liked It
Movies based on the current war in Iraq have not fared too well at the box office.  Apparently, people arenʼt interested in seeing movies on this subject matter. The wounds are too fresh and our soldiers are currently living the experiences depicted in these movies. Thatʼs why it is so refreshing to see a war based film with a lighter tone and humor. Nights at the Rodanthe
Liked It
Based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, the guy who gave us A Night to Remember and The Notebook, you pretty much know going in that this is going to end in tears. And if one judges a tear-jerker by how many sniffles you hear as the credits roll then Nights in Rodanthe is a winner. Read more...
Lakeview Terrance
Cable It
It's 2008. I see just as many, if not more, interracial couples than I do same race couples. So when I heard the premise of Lakeview Terrace, an African-American cop harrassing the interracial couple that moves in next door, I couldn't help but think that this is a premise that is just a few decades too late. My Best Friend's Girl
Liked It
Relationships can be rough business, especially when you are in love with someone who is not in love with you. We’ve all been there, but in the new Lionsgate comedy My Best Friend’s Girl, we find out the lengths at which some people will go to land the love of their life. Read more...
The Family That Preys
Liked It
Tyler Perry has surely matured as a writer/director over the course of his short, yet impressive career. He proves this fact solidly with his latest entry. The Family That Preys is a story about deceit, greed, and well, family. Read more...
Righteous Kill
Cable It

Before Righteous Kill the only time we'd seen Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro together was in a single delicous scene in Heat. And it bore the question, "If they could do that in a little five minute scene, what could they do with a whole movie?" Well, we may never know. Righteous Kill was the wrong vehicle to showcase these talents. In fact, Ridiculous Kill would be a better name. Read more...

The Women
Rent It

I would love to tell you to grab your group of girls and run, not walk, to see The Women. But I can't say that. It isn't so much a bad movie as it is one I just didn't connect with. With Meg, Annette, Jada and Debra, I was hoping for a cinematic reconnection with some of my favorite actresses. You know, that feeling you get when you see an old friend after a long time. What I got was the kind of 'good to see you,' you get from your ex-sister-in-law who used to be a good friend before the nasty divorce. Read more...

Burn After Reading
Rent It

Burn After Reading is the latest feature from Academy Award winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Cohen. These guys are hit and miss with me. They hit big with their 80’s classic Raising Arizona, but missed  big with their overrated Oscar winner No Country For Old Men....at least for me. They are back with one of the funniest disappointments of the year...at least for me. Read more...

Babylon A.D.
Cable It
I tell ya, Hollywood sure has a way of painting the future to be dark, dangerous, and daunting. Unfortunately, the script to the new Vin Diesel actioner Babylon A.D. is just as dismal. Read more...
Traitor

Traitor, Don Cheadle’s latest effort, performs a delicate balancing act, trying to show all sides of a very complicated issue without tipping too far in one direction or the other. Read more...
Longshots
Rent It
Is it just me or has Ice Cube become the new Bill Cosby? I mean,  he has gone from playing  thugs to family man. From the Are We There Yet? movies to his new entry The Longshots, he is slowly becoming the new Cliff Huxtable. All that is missing is his collection of colorful sweaters. Read more...
Hamlet 2
Liked It
Hamlet 2 arrives in theatres with posters lauding how funny it is. “Dementedly hilarious!” and “Comedy Heaven.” With reviews like that I expected to be rolling in the aisles. I wasn’t; but that didn’t mean I didn’t laugh and laugh a lot. Read more...
The House Bunny
Rent It
Stupid is as stupid does. If you want to find stupid people look no further than the new comedy The House Bunny. Actually, just watching it lowered my I.Q. several points. Sadly, I got the jokes and laughed out loud several times. What does that say about me? Read more...
The Rocker

As you can tell by the picture in my bio... I was born to ROCK!!!! If you see the new comedy The Rocker you will quickly realize that The Office’s Rainn Wilson was born to do the same. Read more...
Death Race
Don't Bother
The opposite of a chick-flick would be a man-movie, a movie filled with car chases, explosions and ample displays of hot chicks in skimpy clothes. Death Race is the epitome of a man movie. Read more...
Tropic Thunder
Liked It
If you are lover of politically incorrect comedy like myself, then I have the perfect movie for you, Tropic Thunder . A farce that has already been riddled with a fire storm of controversy and protest. Read more...
Mirrors
Don't Bother
The premise for Mirrors immediately piqued my interest because I’m sort of scared of them myself. I have a fear that one morning, or night, I’ll wake up and see something other than myself staring back at me. I was curious to see what they’d do with a similar premise. My fear still terrifies me at times, this movie did not. Read more...
Pineapple Express
Rent It
I'm not a stoner. In fact, I've never been high (drunk plenty but never high). So, stoner comedies always fall sort of flat for me from Friday to How High and going all the way back to the Cheech and Chong movies. Having said that, there are some laughs to be had in Pineapple Express that you don't have to be stoned to appreciate. Read more...
The Mummy 3

Swing Vote
Liked It
I’ve never been a big Kevin Costner fan. And in this hyper-political climate, the idea of watching a political film did not appeal to me. Yet, by the end of Swing Vote, my vote had changed. Read more...
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
Rent It
Is the truth really out there? I don’t know if it is or not, but there is a bigger question on my mind. Why did the makers of The X Files wait so long for a sequel to their 1998 hit? Read more...
Step Brothers
Liked It
Welcome back Will Ferrell! After a brief dramatic turn in Stranger Than Fiction. Not to mention moderately funny appearances in Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory. Oh, and who can forget the recent debacle Semi Pro. Let’s just say, his track record got a bit off track. Now, he’s back in a hilarious movie from producer Judd Apatow. Read more...
The Dark Knight
Loved It
I've been waiting for The Dark Knight since the credits began to roll at the end of Batman Begins. Now that the back story has been fully established, Batman faces his first major villain in the Joker, one of Heath Ledger's final roles. Read more...
Mama Mia
Rent It
Oh mamma! Why do you sing so much? Now, I don’t mind a good musical. There has been some top notch stage to screen flicks in recent years. The big difference between those gems and the new ABBA based musical Mamma Mia is that they were interesting. Read more...
Meet Dave
Don't Bother
Remember the Eddie Murphy of the 80’s? You know the one who did movies like Coming to America, Trading Places, 48 Hours and Delirious? Even the Eddie Murphy of the 90’s gave us Boomerang and The Nutty Professor. As I watched Meet Dave, the follow-up to last year’s abysmal Norbit, I asked myself, “What the hell happened?” Read more...
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Liked It
Journey to the Center of the Earth is a pleasant surprise. It’s a solidly entertaining family adventure film that the kids (and the kids at heart) should thoroughly enjoy. But if you want to make the most out of the experience pay the extra money to see it at an IMAX theater so you can truly appreciate the 3-D effects. Read more...
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Rent It

I was absolutely mesmerized by the trailer for Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. It was visually stunning and very intense. The movie instantly made a spot on my ‘must see” blockbuster list for the summer. Only days before my screening of this new installment, I rented the original and loved it!  Unfortunately, the verdict on its sequel is still out. Read more...

If you enjoy over-the-top action sequences and aren't squeamish when it comes to a little bit of the old ultra-violence; then you will want to see Wanted, the new actioner starring Angelina Jolie. Read more...
Get Smart
Rent It
I’m always weary when old TV series make a run for the big screen, so I cringed a bit when I heard they were revisiting the spy-spoof Get Smart. But then I heard that Steve Carell (of The Office and The 40-Year Old Virgin) was stepping into the telephonic shoes of Don Adams (the original Maxwell Smart) and I got all excited. Carell truly was inspired casting. I just wished the rest of the film had shown a little more inspiration. Read more...
The Love Guru
WTF
We all at one time or another have felt the need for a love guru.  You know, someone to help us through those tough times in our rocky relationships. If you ever become that desperate for help do yourself a favor and don’t call Mike Myers or his dumb character in the new “comedy” The Love Guru. Read more...
Incredible Hulk
Liked It
When I heard Edward Norton was in talks to star in a new version of The Incredible Hulk, I admit I had my doubts. Just like the ones I had when I heard Robert Downey Jr. was on tap to star in Ironman. Luckily, both actors proved they had the right stuff to fill these massive shoes. Read more...
The Happening
Liked It
Okay, I'm going to go against the critical tide and say that I really enjoyed The Happening. I try not to go into a movie with preconceived notions; but I have to admit, after Lady in the Water and The Village, I had my misgivings. I was pleasantly surprised. Read more...
Kung Fu Panda

Recently in theaters, you’ve seen rats cooking gourmet meals and bees going on the defensive. Now, a loveable panda bear is kickin butt in the new animation hit Kung Fu Panda. Read more...
WTF
Going to an Adam Sandler comedy and expecting sophisticated and nuanced humor is like going to a strip club and expecting ballet. Judd Apatow, the guy that gave us The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and SuperBad, co-wrote You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, with his old friend and former roommate, Sandler, and with that duo, you’d expect a hefty dose of raunchy and gross-out humor. You’d also expect it to be funny but you would be wrong. Oh so wrong. Read more...
Liked It
Okay, ladies! Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha are back! And while some things have changed; a lot of things remain the same. The Sex and the City Movie is like reconnecting with an old friend. Read more...
The Strangers
Liked It
So, you say you like to be scared? Looks like Halloween is coming a little early this year.  The Strangers is the latest horror film to make its way onto the big screen and take my word for it, prepare to scream. Read more...
Indiana Jones
Rent It
Summer 2008 is quickly shaping up to be the season of the lackluster blockbuster. With only a handful of flicks in the marketplace, critical and commercial supremacy has gone to Ironman. The one movie destined to melt old Iron down to size is the Spielberg/Lucas juggernaut Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I don’t know Indy, the funds may go your way, but the fans are not so happy with your return. Read more...
